Woman’s Health and Women’s

Women need health care even when they are well. When they are sick the most reason they need care, but also to know more.

In This section there are updated news about vaginal infections, sexually transmitted diseases, cancer prevention.

We are also talking about infertility and sexual violence, issues in which, in addition to the health problem, problems of protection and respect for women’s rights are added.

You can email us to ask for information that you can’t find on the site, and we can support you remotely if you want to talk to someone.

You can also ask us for advice on what you are already doing, but also on where is a specialized center of the Regional Health Service near you.

Women sometimes need to talk to other women, and to share their problem, not always the forums are the right place to take information, although they can be an important moment of sharing.

Our information is independent of any interest, and the centers we send to are public or accredited centers of recognized value.

Do not hesitate to contact us.

Radiation Therapy and Skin Effects

Radiotherapy, a common therapeutic presidium in the Oncological field, has as one of its most common cutaneous toxic effects the radiodermite. In fact, 85% of patients subjected to radiotherapy develop cutaneous manifestations ranging from the moderate erythematous rash to the actual ulceration.

When this procedure is also associated with a chemotherapy-type protocol, the skin lesions may add ‘ recall ‘ reactions and ‘ increase ‘ reactions (radiation enhancement).

Radiation recall refers to the cutaneous phenomenon for which after the administration of chemotherapy (e.g., a taxa) an inflammatory reaction is induced in a previously irradiated area.

It is a erythematous eruption that is variablely associated with blistering, flaking and itching.

Radiation enhancement refers to the increase in skin toxicity produced by radiotherapy and caused by the administration of a chemotherapy at the same time or at a distance of about 7 days from radiotherapy.

The drugs that are most frequently involved in this reaction are: bleomycin, doxorubicin, Fluorurabile, Hydroxyurea, 6-mercaptopurine and methotrexate.

Clinically it presents as a radiodermite with erythema, edema, vesicles, blisters or erosion, in severe cases tissue necrosis that, unlike the radiation recall, can extend locally beyond the irradiated area.

Both manifestations are resolved in a matter of months, but are extremely disabling as long-term can lead to cutaneous atrophy, fibrotic and Telangiectasias.

Finally, it is possible that there is a flare or even a first onset of radiodermite, as a result of fairly frequent and common situations, ranging from simple fever to reactions as a result of radiological examinations of control such as TAC, Mammography, chest RX.

Dermocosmetologico protocol for Radiodermite

Radiodermite is usually shown when the skin is exposed to dosages higher than 2000cGy, while dryness associated with flaking and itching is a frequent occurrence.

The rules of cleansing and hydration described in the Dermocosmetologico protocol are also valid here.

The dosage of use involves the application of the cosmetic Presidium immediately before and immediately after exposure to radiotherapy. Of particular interest is a new series of antioxidants combined with the real dedicated cosmetics: Rusco, Red Vine, Ubidecanone, Q10, extracts of particular marine algae.

Prevention of Cervical Cancer?

Prevention of cervical cancer? of Manchester ’00 Laser (taken from a purple flower, some famous woman, maybe actress et voila, the campaign against cervical cancer is ready. Or better prepared, indeed pre-packaged… but by whom?

The statistics report that there are about 12,800 European women dying each year for cervical cancers whose cause appears to be the human papilloma virus (HPV) or human warts virus (also known as warts or rooster crests) that is transmitted Sexually.

There are about 13 types of this virus that have been linked to the generation of cancer cells. Tumors of this kind are curable at 100% if special time screening is made. In December, a European Women’s Association was established in order to make political pressures for the adoption by European health systems of HPV screening systems (European Women for HPV testing,) together with the most Traditional PAP smear test.

In Italy, the initiative for the adoption of the HPV test is sponsored by the Ministry for Equal Opportunities and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and collects the accession of many Italian women ‘ famous ‘ including the presenter Licia Colo ‘, various actresses and deputies .

In December some famous foreign actresses such as Liz Hurley, Carol Vordeman and Caprice joined the battle for the adoption of the tests. So far so good, even better. We will not be the one to quibble over the importance of the whole campaign, and we would not even have the competence.

But there’s a ‘ ma ‘. An investigation of the weekly Observer (the newspaper coming out instead of the Guardian on Sunday) revealed that behind the entire operation lurks a clandestine campaign orchestrated by a multinational, the Digene, operating in Maryland (United States).

The Digene has recently developed new genetic systems for HPV screening and would of course be among the first to benefit from the possible adoption by European health systems of HPV mass screening systems.

The value of his actions could gain enormously. According to the British newspaper, in December an anonymous personality who had received the letter of the association had been suspicious to such an extent as to investigate who hid behind his identity, noticing that his address was nothing more than the box of a post office near the European Parliament in Brussels.

The letter was signed by a certain Sara Johnsson, an employee at a public relations agency known as Burson-Marsteller (whose seat is close to the post office) and also one of the most active in the lobbying campaigns in the European Parliament.

The executive director of Burson-Marsteller, Jeremy Galbraith, confirmed that Burson-Marsteller operated on behalf of the Digene from 2001 and that the multinational company is one of its most ‘ important ‘ clients. The game has held up however for a short while and the whole affair is over in the newspapers.

The lobbying technique used by Digene is not even that new. He always refers to the Guardian’s columnist who in technical jargon deals with ‘ third party technique ‘ (in Italian we could call it the third party technical) and that works: the multinational contacts a public relations agency.

The agency is responsible for activating and stimulating a campaign on behalf of the multinational. The campaign is based on the constitutions of fake pressure groups ‘ from below ‘ and perhaps represented by some famous person. It usually works.

We repeat, indeed we underline, that the HPV test is of paramount importance for the control and prevention of cervical cancer. We don’t say that, most of the doctors say that.

The problem remains that today-with a private management of the new screening systems and partly monopolistic by some biotech companies-the prevention of uterine cancer becomes a morsel too appetizing for some (cynical is to say the least) Multinational.

A representative of the Digene defended the company’s work by pointing out that ‘ we always make sure that our operations are transparent and we openly say which campaigns we finance ‘. And indeed on the site of the association the name of the Diogenes appears, although nothing is said about the work of the ‘ Digene Corporation ‘ and the fact that it would be among the first to profit from the diffusion of the tests.

While instead-as a result of the article-in the English section of the website it is said that ‘ we are currently contacting our supporters in the United Kingdom, so that ‘ they will give us confirmation of their support ‘.

Oncology Therapies, Prevention and Care of Skin Effects

The project “The body found” has the objective to identify and validate guidelines for a Dermocosmetologico protocol studied for the various characteristics of oncological patient and therapies planned.

In the current pharmacological management of cutaneous toxicity reactions there are a number of fairly empirical recommendations and not validated by evidence of daily clinical practice. They also do not contemplate the more specifically cosmetic aspect and do not offer therapeutic advice tailored to the individual patient.

Since the beginning of each therapeutic cycle, the patient must adopt a series of preventive hygienic and behavioural measures that take into account the side effects of the skin organ, the “preferred” target from the consequences of surgical therapy, Pharmacological and/or radiant.

The protocol developed by the scientific Board “The body found” is intended to intensify research to prevent and treat the various side effects caused by cancer therapies.

Xerosis or dry skin

To avoid skin dryness it is necessary to pay a lot of attention to cleansing and hydration. Detergents must not contain aggressive surfactants and excessively foaming (Sodiolauril-sulfate, sodiolauriletere-sulfate), and a cleansing for “affinity” should be privileged.

Water/Oil emulsions are well in which the lipid component consists of vegetable fats of natural derivation (of Shea, of wheat germ, of jojoba, of avocado) or of synthesis (CAPRILYC capric triglyceride); Whereas cosmetics containing a large percentage of hydrocarbon derivatives (petrolatum, paraffin, Vaseline) or Silicones (Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane) should be avoided, which are currently recognised as hazardous Although still not subject to regulation on the allowed percentage.

To restore hydration and counteract the oxidative effect of pharmacological therapy, the moisturizer par excellence must be formulated with selected and targeted active ingredients: unsaponifiable (Shea, Jojoba, Olive, palm), aloe, niacinamide (Vit. B3), Tocopherols and Tocotrienols, Ceramides, Gamma Oryzanol. The low or no presence of petrolatum and silicones is important.
Avoid creams made from exfoliating and irritant substances such as glycolic acid, alpha-hydroxy and benzoyl peroxide or formulations in alcohol gel due to their desiccant and irritant power.

In case the itching is not particularly tolerated, the use of anti-H1 antihistamines (Cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine) may be used.

When the xerosis is so demanding to produce fissures and fissures, in addition to ensuring the disinfection of the lesions, it is possible to recommend the use of 2% aqueous eosin for local touches, associated with creams or pasta based on Vit. and zinc oxide. The choice of a formulation in ointment (made with urea and not with petrolatum) including that related to topical antibiotics, should always be privileged.

Damage Nail

For the prevention of onicopatie it is possible to use special refrigerating gloves which, worn during the infusion of the chemotherapy, reduce the local toxicity of the drugs thanks to the low temperature induced vasoconstriction (up to-250/-30 0).

In the case of an infection that causes the nail edge to be infected, topical antiseptics should be applied for the prevention of over-infection: rifampicin topical, and if necessary, topical silver nitrate, to reduce the granulation tissue.

In more serious cases, antibiotics should be considered.

The use of minoxidil topical at 2% seems to give good results especially in the case of alopecia caused by taxa and anthracycline, but does not protect from that caused by doxorubicin. Further studies are still underway.

The use of the wig by the cancer patient remains a valid solution even in the case of trophic alterations of hair and pigmentation.

The wig should be free of glues, which have irritating and sensitizering power and have a suitable texture for a stressed skin econ an altered barrier. Often, especially with biological medications, there is no real alopecia, but a massive fall that still does not cause baldness.

In these cases, it may be useful to use lotions that bring active ingredients to the hair bulb and stimulate the skin microcirculation.

It is useful to associate supplements based on antioxidants and substances dedicated to restoring the physiological cycle of keratin eg. Vitamin E, melatonin, reduced glutathione and other active ingredients in the course of studies.

1-2 times a day you apply on the post surgical scar a cream made from hyaluronic acid and rosehip Oil or of the wort to improve the elasticity of the tissue and reduce the inflammation. The use of creams formulated with extract of the Allium stock bulb also makes the scars softer and smoother.

Radiotherapy is often practised on the scar area which, paradoxically, improves the aesthetic appearance of the scar, tending to Atrofizzarla.

But this requires greater protection of the area both in terms of hydration and photoprotection.

Where possible and, in due course, plastic surgery can improve surgical damage.

Tips for fabrics and washes

It is important the choice of the fabrics to be worn and the detergents to be preferred for their washing in order to protect a skin weakened by any further irritating agent, even external.

The fabrics to be put “to skin” are undoubtedly the natural ones like cotton, linen, silk and possibly colored with vegetable colors.

They are to avoid synthetic fabrics, stretches, rough wools, garments containing metals and sequins.

Detergents for washing clothes should be chosen from the most delicate possible and used in small doses, in particular softeners. The tissues should be dried very well.
